7 Coffee Shops to Try in San Francisco

OK I LOVE coffee. I love to start my day with a nice cup of coffee (preferably latte) and usually like to pair it with a yummy pastry (my weakness). I also usually need another cup of coffee (maybe iced coffee) towards the afternoon (around 2PM/3PM) most likely because I start my day so early (around 7AM/8AM) and need a pick-me-up. My favorite is local, good coffee.

While in San Francisco, I took the opportunity to try a bunch of different local coffee shops around. I stayed in the Mission District, so the majority is in that area. PS – they are all dog friendly!

Blue Bottle Coffee

1355 Market Street (10th and Stevenson, STE 190)
San Francisco, CA 94103
(Market Square, multiple)
Ordered: Almond Milk Latte

So even though it looks like there are also locations in New York and Los Angeles, Blue Bottle Coffee originated in San Francisco and is definitely a SF staple. Although they didn’t have treats for me (or maybe this location was just sold out), they had treats for Nala! Which by the way you can tell from her face that she was dying over them – HA! One thing to note is that they make their own almond milk and it was definitely an interesting flavor.

Four Barrel Coffee

375 Valencia St.
San Francisco, CA 94103
(Mission District, multiple)
Ordered: Almond Macadamia Milk Latte and Vegan Vanilla Donut

This latte was beautiful and I was so excited to try it, but it was actually not my favorite coffee drink I tried. Since they also make their own Almond Macadamia milk, it seemed to give the latte a distinctive taste. The donut on the other hand was amazing. I strong recommend to dunk the donut in the coffee. Also – on Saturdays they apparently have a “secret cafe in the back” that has a separate entrance and possibly different menu items.

Philz Coffee

1 Front St #100
San Francisco, CA 94111
(Embarcadero, multiple)
Ordered: Mint Mojito Iced Coffee with Almond Milk

This shop has a cute little gimmick drink. It wasn’t super amazing, but I do think it is worth a try at least once. So many people suggested that I try it so I feel like it is a San Francisco staple. The place definitely gave off a chain vibe, which it is, but it sort of felt like it. However, this seems very popular with the locals as there was a huge line when I went to grab a cup.

Ritual Coffee

1026 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110 (Mission District, multiple)
Ordered: Almond Milk Latte with Vegan Jelly Donut

All of their pastries are vegan on Monday, Wednesday and Friday! This was by far the best coffee ever! This wins my favorite latte in San Francisco. If you don’t have a chance to to stop by, there is a cafe in the SFO airport that serves this coffee (all the way in the back of the Jetblue terminal), so I highly recommend picking it up there!

Sightglass Coffee

3014 20th St
San Francisco, CA 94110
(Mission District, multiple)
Ordered: Vanilla Cold Brew with Almond Milk and a Vegan Chocolate pastry

I got introduced to this place when I was meeting a friend who told me this was their favorite spot. The coffee was good and I loved the vibe: so cute and cozy! I didn’t get a latte since I went in the afternoon and I typically like a regular coffee later in the day (although I would have LOVED to try theirs, it was the type of place that I feel would brew an amazing latte). The staff mentioned that the vanilla cold brew was a customer favorite so I felt I had to try it! I was not disappointed.

Linea Caffe

3417 18th St
San Francisco, CA 94110
(Mission District)
Ordered: Almond Milk Latte with Bran Muffin

The place is very quaint, nestled on a little corner off a side street, is Linea Caffe. This was the first shop I tried in SF and was not disappointed. While small, there is plenty of seating outside and a cute little window where you can still see into the shop. The latte came in cute little mug and it tasted great! There were no vegan pastries, so I made the bran muffin a substitute.

Cafe Réveille

610 Long Bridge St
San Francisco, CA 94158
(Mission Bay)
Ordered: Matcha Latte with Almond Milk and Moroccan Shakshuka (sans feta cheese)

Wow – talk about Instagramable… this place is SO cute. From the pink tables to the perfectly branded cups, it was easy to take the cutest pictures. I got a matcha latte (since I went in the afternoon) and this was amazing! I definitely recommend, plus the food is pretty good as well.
