Explore + Rethink Your Closet

Taking advice from my last Materialism post, I’m really trying to not buy new things and really explore what’s already in my (too large of a) closet. For this look, I wanted to add something that I’ve had forever and haven’t worn in a really long time: this brown American Eagle jacket.

Bag: Danielle Nicole / Jeans: Zara (similar) (similar) / Shoes: Soludos x Jason Polan / Sunnies: Thrifted (similar) (similar) / Shirt: H&M (similar) (similar) / Watch: Michael Kors

I am not one who usually likes to get rid of my clothes just in case I’d want to wear it again sometime in the future. I honestly cannot tell you how long I’ve had this jacket for (8/9 years?). Part of what I’m trying to do is to really go through my closet and make the determination if I need to keep something or if I really should get rid of it.

On this day, I picked up this jacket and told myself that if I didn’t want to wear this TODAY that I was never going to wear it and I need to get rid of it. I actually ended up wearing it (obvs) and I really like this monochromatic look it helped create. Plus, I added my Michael Kors watch (that is also about 4 years old) to complete the all brown minimal look.

I also like to mix my newer items with the items that I already have. Isn’t the whole idea of wearing vintage clothing about keeping what’s in your closet because it will come back in style and is super cute when integrated with newer, modern styles?

  1. Love this look and the whole “shopping your closet” thing is so true! What I’ve been doing is, before swiping the plastic I’ll think: Do I already own something like this? 9 times out of 10 the answer is yes, so I pass. Plus, traveling is such an incentive for shopping less and saving more! 🙂
