How to Layer a Slip Dress for Transitional Weather

It has been so cold lately in NYC, but I still wanted to wear my little black slip dress! So what did I do? I layered it…

I love to layer my looks, they can help give a sense of dimension to an outfit and give you more options for the clothes you already have. When I was deciding what to layer under this velvet mini slip dress, I wanted to pick something that had contrasting texture, like this silk blouse. The mix of materials is mostly what makes this outfit so interesting and brings a bit of sophistication to the whole look. You can also mix materials the other way: with a silk slip dress and a velvet top.

To maintain the sexiness of the look, I wanted to layer a more form-fitting top underneath since the dress is pretty tight. If the slip dress is looser, you can go for different style tops to layer with, like THIS INSPO WITH STATEMENT SLEEVES that I took during NYFW last year. For the cooler temps, I added my over-the-knee boots to top off the look (which you can never go wrong in) plus they always keep me SUPER warm!

This was also the day of my good friend Gillian’s birthday party at the Refinery Rooftop! The vibes were so cute and the overcast day provided amazing lighting!
