How to Style the Backwards Shirt

Shoes: Soludos / Shorts: Forever 21 (similar) / Shirt: Vintage / Watch: Michael Kors

The backwards shirt look is so perfect for a hot summer day. I know I posted about the backwards shirt before, but I wanted to share some new insights that I learned and show a different way to style the top. The look is really about improvising and doing what makes you feel comfortable.

I recently got a few oversized men’s shirts that are so soft and lightweight and I seriously want to wear them all the time! I styled this look for a Memorial Day barbeque that I went to on Long Island and wore a shirt that had a design that sort of reminded me of a picnic. I styled the shirt as a one shoulder look and paired it with some high waisted shorts and since I was showing so much leg I wore my fave Soludos wedges that wrap up a little.

For me, I think it’s best to choose a dress shirt that stays with the classic blue color (perhaps with a little design: checkered, lines) or classic white. The best way to pick up one of these shirts is either at a thrift store or vintage store because you can get great quality and super low prices, like here or here on Etsy. I will be adding some new kinds of vintage dress shirts perfect for this look soon to my Etsy Shop, stay tuned.

STYLE IT – Once you have your oversized, light weight dress shirt; you are ready to go! I created a little video to help you get an idea how I styled this shirt so you can do it, too.

PS; I tagged some pieces to wear with the BACKWARDS SHIRT to get a similar look below:

You look adorable per usual, I love gingham print and this tutorial video/post is great, I’ve been wondering how to get this done without looking like a hot mess. I’m sure you were a hit at the BBQ you had in Long Island if you wore this cutie. I think you should wear another version of this for our brunch on Sunday so I can see it live!

When I saw the video–it was so fun watching it! Awesome idea for that backwards shirt. Pairing it with shorts and those pretty sandals made it look even more fashionable. You’re not just pretty but also very creative! xx
